The Australian government changed migration regulations on December 7, 2024 and introduced a new visa category: the Skills in Demand visa. This change is part of the comprehensive Migration Amendment Regulations 2024, which are designed to modernize Australia’s migration framework.
What is the Skills in Demand Visa?
The Skills in Demand visa replaces the previous Subclass 482 Temporary Skills Deficiency visa, which has been used very frequently by employers in practice, and offers both employees and employers more flexibility. The aim is to attract skilled workers and strengthen Australia’s global competitiveness. This visa allows workers to stay in Australia for up to four years.
Requirements for the application
In order to successfully apply for the new visa, the following criteria must be met:
- The occupation must be listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL).
- At least one year of relevant work experience is required.
- Proof of sufficient English language skills is necessary.
- A competency assessment may be required.
These changes are intended to make the process of labor migration to Australia more efficient and attractive. The processing time can be viewed online.
