New U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Fees for 2024 Nonimmigrant Visas
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services increased premium processing fees on February 26, 2024. This means that the application must be processed more quickly after the application has been submitted. The visa should be approved or rejected within 2 weeks for premium processing. The regular processing times depend on the respective visa type and can be between 10 days, e.g. For example, with the O visa for media representatives it can take up to several months for other visa types. According to a regulation published in December 2023, the fees for this accelerated processing within the authority will be increased, e.g. for:
Form I-129, Work Visa/Petition for a Nonimmigrant Worker (L Visa):
- Fees for processing all Form I-129 applications for classifications other than H-2B and R-1 will increase from $2,500 to $2,805.
- Premium processing fees for Form I-129 applications for H-2B and R-1 will increase from $1,500 to $1,685.
Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status):
- Premium processing fees for Form I-539 applications will increase from $1,750 to $1,965.
The new fees apply to all Premium Processing applications postmarked on or after February 26, 2024. Premium editing is only possible for some services. More information can be found here.
The new premium processing fees are unrelated to the change in filing fees that USCIS announced on January 30, 2024 and is scheduled to take effect on April 1, 2024.
Nonimmigrant and immigrant visa application fees will increase effective April 1, 2024 and some fees will decrease. The table with the changed fees can be viewed in the “Federal Register” of the USCIS and the Homeland Security Agency from pages 18 ff. In 2020, Congress passed the USCIS Stabilization Act, which establishes new fees for processing applications and allows the Department of Homeland Security to adjust fees every two years.
