Important change in the US visa application process from October 2024

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) is currently working to streamline the visa application process and will launch a new booking system/online profile for U.S. nonimmigrant visas and U.S. immigrant visas beginning October 26, 2024. USTravelDocs (CGI Federal Inc.) will most likely remain in charge after the transition on October 26, 2024 – but there will be changes such as:

System outage from October 22 to October 25, 2024

The previous system will not be available from October 22nd to 25th, 2024. During this time, new Visa profiles cannot be created or existing profiles can be accessed. Likewise, no new appointments can be made and no new fee payments can be made as the old system is transferred to the new system.
Interview appointments that have already been booked at the US consulates will take place as usual. However, there may be delays in visa processing and passport delivery due to the change.

Changeover from October 26, 2024

From October 26, 2024, visa applications will be processed via the new system. Existing (old) profiles will be transferred to the new online system as part of the changeover. Previously booked interview appointments remain valid and payments already made do not expire. However, applicants (with old profiles) must officially re-register via the new system (using their previous email address).

Please note that there may be technical problems or delays in the first few days after the changeover. Further changes are still possible.

Update existing profiles and payments by October 21, 2024

If you have a current visa application, make sure you have updated your visa profile by October 21, 2024 at the latest to minimize problems when transitioning to the new system. If you have already paid the visa application fee, all information should be correct.

If you haven’t booked an appointment or made a payment yet, you can do so in the new profile after the transfer.
