The U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt is temporarily not accepting NIE applications

According to current reports, the U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt will not process applications submitted by e-mail until further notice. The new regulation affects the following groups:

  • People who have already entered the U.S. with a visa or ESTA authorization and must renew their NIE application after the expiration of the 12-month validity period.
  • People who have already obtained a U.S. residency permit but still need a NIE exemption.
  • Applicants whose initial NIE application has been denied and have to submit their second application

However, NIE applications that have already been submitted and those submitted together with the visa application are still being processed. Applicants who are affected by the new regulation should submit the NIE application to the U.S. Embassy in Berlin or to the U.S. Consulate General in Munich. There, the processing of NIE applications is still possible without any restriction.
